Although the Swatch Group will not be participating in this year’s Watches & Wonders, Omega has wasted no time in announcing some very interesting new watches for this 2021! Let’s discover their novelties together.

Omega Seamaster 300

We begin with my favourite: the Seamaster 300. We actually got a taster of what was to come when we made a video with Omega, discussing the history of the Semaster 300 and the general Seamaster collection. Missed the video? No worries, here it is below:

This year’s iteration brings about numerous new features, both aesthetically and technically.
The Seamaster 300 is now available in 4 configurations: 2 dials (blue or black) and 2 bracelet options (steel bracelet or leather strap).

Measuring a conservative (by today’s standards) 41mm across, it appears bigger, thanks to the enlarged dial and slimmer bezel when compared to last year’s reference. The face features the classic broad arrow hands, contrasted ever so subtly by the iconic lollipop seconds hand.

Let’s take a better look at the dial as a whole: as we said, it appears slightly larger than before. Omega chose to “rethink” the dial from a vintage perspective. As such, the current model’s dial recalls the proportions of the Seamaster 300s from the 1960s. The name for this type of contrsuction is a “sandwich” dial: you can clearly see that there are in fact two layers to it, and they appear to be overlaid onto each other. Just have a look at the “open” arabic numerals!

The new Seamaster 300 also comes with a totally reinvented bracelet. It is far more ergonomic thanks in part to the new quick-set clasp, which allows you to make 3 micro adjustments.
The case is also much slimmer due to Omega’s use of a domed sapphire crystal.
From a technical perspective, this new model is a huge step up. Finally, the Seamaster 300 is powered by a Master Chronometer Certified movement. This caliber has caused a slight alteration in the appearance of the caseback. This is actually a blessing in disguise, as now, instead of crowding the dial with signatures, all the certifications have been placed on the back.

Well, there is actually a fifth version of the new Seamaster 300…

…and it’s bronze! Have you ever seen a bronze Seamaster?

Okay, truth be told, it’s not actually bronze.
For years now, Omega has been at the forefront of the watch industry when it comes to research in case materials, with each proprietary alloy more fascinating than the one before. This watch is no exception. In fact, it is quite a special one if you conside the context.

Bronze is a metal which has been tied to the maritime and diving industry since, well, forever. Why? The metal’s physical and chemical properties make very good in weathering the harsh oceanic environment. It is particularly effective in preventing rust and corrosion.
Don’t believe us? What do you think the diver’s helmet in the photo above is made from?

So, what better material, for what better watch, is there than the Bronze Omega Seamaster 300 to symbolise the brand’s relationship with the sea?
I’ll tell you: none. This new Bronze Gold alloy is definitely the most salient point in all of Omega’s novelties for 2021!

But it’s not just important symbolically, it is incredibly innovative, too. It is the first bronze alloy which resists oxidation without the need for surface treatment. According to Omega’s documents, this is thanks to a perfect blend of silver, copper, 9k yellow gold and palladium.

To complete the watch, we have a familiar characteristic: a slightly bronzed dial (the non-alloyed version!), whose naturally warm hues compliment the case material.

Needless to say, I am dying to try this watch on.

Omega Constellation Manhattan Small Seconds

Fresh colourways and more precious stones characterise the all new Manhattan Ladies’ Edition. This watch is often forgotten in the Omega lineup, undeservedly so in my opinion, as it a really stunning piece.

Certainly, less striking and well known when compared to a Seamaster 300, but still, very much worthy of coverage. Remember: these watches have a Certification, too!

Omega De Ville Trésor Power Reserve

How do you totally re-invent an already classic-looking watch? Many have tried, but Omega has succeded with the new Trésor Power Reserve.

An ultra-slim 40mm gold case, Master Chronometer Certification, and a near perfect symmetry in the dial between the power reserve and the sub-seconds. Need we say more?

There’s also a version with the sub-seconds only! Both references are packed with small yet stunning details. For example: I don’t think I’ve ever seen these types of hour and minute hands.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra

Like the Constellation Mahattan, new precious stones and colourways is the name of the game for the new Aqua Terra lady. Naturally, as with nearly all of Omega’s flagship models, this one is also equipped with a Master Chronometer Certification (oh, and new bracelets, too!).

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Black Black

You will definitely have seen this model if you’ve watched our YouTube video. However, no one’s ever seen it quite like this.
This is by far the most – shall we say, widely debated – Omega release of 2021. Personally, I like it!

It has been a couple of years now ever since blacked-out watches came onto the scene, and they haven’t showed any signs of slowing down. Many brands have given their take on the trend, all with different results.

In this particular case, Omega has opted to use black ceramic, manipulating its finishes so that it creates both contrast and legibility.

The specs are exactly the same as those discussed in the video… so yes, you can bet that it has a Master Chronometer Certification!

New Velcro Straps for the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch

So far in 2021, we’ve already seen the new range of the Omega Speedmasters, which you can read about here. We’ve seen a new watch, with a new movement and new lugs… what’s new here now?

Straps!

If you’re a fan of the Omega Speedmaster, you will definitely be familiar with the brand’s long-standing relationship with NASA and space exploration.

Spacemen need watches too, right? Yes, but the puffy spacesuits were just too big for the regular bracelet. Enter: velcro. This was the material used for all missions, beginning in the 1960s.

In 2021, we still have velcro, but it’s no ordinary strap. This version pays homage to the incredible astronomical achievements of the past, present and the future, through a special edition strap which features the NASA logo as well as the cursive Speedmaster font.

What do you all think of these new releases by Omega? Do you like them? Did you even expect them?
