Here are all Patek Philippe ‘s New Releases for 2021… a Nautilus-esque Watches & Wonders 2021!

Patek Philippe’s Nautilus has dominated the watch scene for years now. That’s a simple fact of life. Whether it be a new release, a rumoured model discontinuation, literally anything surrounding the porthole-shaped timepiece makes headlines.

Despite the releases being public knowledge for just a couple of hours, our feeds are flooded with the new Nautilus. This is a true testament of the following behind this watch.

The Patek Philippe Nautilus – Odi et Amo

That’s not to say things are always smooth sailing for Patek Philippe when it comes to the Nautilus.

Although it has become Patek’s most popular model in the past few years, it has become a burden for the watchmaker.

There are several reasons why the Nautlius is a pain for Patek Philippe. In short, the “hyper-focus” on one single collection was really frustrating for the brand. Given that Patek Philippe has, especially in the past few years, change the conversation to sophisticated haute horology, this has been doubly annoying.

In an effort to divert the attention away from the Nautilus, earlier this year, Patek Philippe announced the indefinite departure of the blue dialled 5711.
(don’t forget, last year the white dial met its end, too)
Unfortunately, this seemed to have an adverse effect, because massive speculation, and therfore more attention, surrounding the Nautilus ensued.

Releases for 2021

We all knew that there was going to be a replacement model. However, I certainly did not expect there to be as many Nautilus-related releases this year. In fact, Patek Philippe has actually made a net addition to this collection. This is especially surprising given Thierry Stern’s own stance on the frustrating model.

Right, preamble over. Let’s look at these releases in detail!

The Green Nautilus 5711

Okay, let’s get this one out of the way: the new “final edition” Nautilus, ref. 5711/1A-014. This steel-cased timepiece features the same classic horizontally embossed lines, but ths time, with an olive green dial. As well as the “regular” version, Patek also released a /1300 variant which comes with baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel. For the full breakdown of these two releases, click here!

The Nautilus 5990 Travel-Time Chronograph in Rose Gold

If ever a release were truly “out of the blue”, it would be this one. Not a single one of us anticipated a rose gold configuration of the ref. 5990, which would appear to be coming for the throne currently held by the 5980 (chronograph).

The ref. 5990 was never one to actively seek out the spotlight. However, it hasn’t been any less appreciated by collectors – quite the opposite. The usefulness of the flyback chronograph, paired with the GMT complication, make this watch a truly cosmopolitan piece. Next stop, first class.

The combination of this new blue soleil dial with the rose gold case isn’t my personal favourite, but I am sure that it will be adored by many. I am equally sure that there are already mile-long waiting lists for this model, which you can pick up for €94,140.

Nautilus 7118 Haute Joaillerie

It’s quite ironic that the most flashy of the releases has gotten the least attention. I, for one, really like this Haute Joaillerie Nautilus.

Whether you love diamonds or not, this rose gold piece, entirely covered in the precious stones is an undeniably intriguing sight.

Both the case and the bracelet have been given the pavé diamond treatment, which requires the tight setting of diamonds of differing dimensions. This is a very masterful technique, because it needs to appear “random”, and you have to leave just the right amount of space between one another, so that the effect is similar to a ray of sunlight reflecting off of a mound of snow.

On this pavé dial, we can notice that the horizontal lines of diamonds actually take the shape of small waveforms. These ondulations are only interrupted by the hour markers and arabic numerals which, like the hands, are coated with luminescent materials to ensure perfect legibility.

All in all, the new Nautilus Haute Joaillerie is lit up by a total of 2553 brilliant-cut internally flawless (~12.69 cts.) Top Wesselton diamonds. You can make one yours for the “modest” sum of €324,250.
